WHAT IF MY DOG IS A BIT SHY ABOUT BEING TOUCHED?

For your dog's comfort and my safety, your dog will need to be reasonably comfortable with the type of gentle touch I will apply during a massage.  As long as your dog is not aggressive,  we can use  some simple exercises to help your dog become more comfortable with handling.  I can spend some time with your dog using those exercises, and also can teach you those in person and by providing you a free short DVD showing a certified professional dog trainer demonstrating those techniques.
WHAT PREPARATIONS ARE NECESSARY BEFORE A MASSAGE?

Massage is most effective when the muscles are already warmed up. So right before I arrive for a massage session, your dog should have at least 15 minutes of exercise:  for instance, a brisk walk or a fun game of fetch.  That will also help your dog shed some excess energy and help her ease into the massage.
Your dog also will focus and relax into the massage much more readily in a calm environment.  So the massage should be scheduled for a time when your home is fairly quiet with little activity.  It also is best if there can be an area set aside where there are no distractions such as other pets or people.  If your dog has a favorite bed or blanket, we can use that as the spot for the massage.   Continue
